Guardian Tip: Discover Glen Lake’s Biodiversity With iNaturalist

by | Dec 19, 2024 | Guardian Tips, News

As we all know, the Glen Lake/Crystal River watershed is a haven of natural beauty and ecological significance. With its crystal-clear waters, forested slopes, and habitats for some of Michigan’s rarest plant species, this area is a treasure trove of biodiversity. The Glen Lake Association, in partnership with Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and recreational users, works tirelessly to protect this special place. Now, you can contribute to these efforts through citizen science with iNaturalist!

What is iNaturalist?

iNaturalist is a free platform that connects people with nature and a global community of naturalists. With just a smartphone or computer, you can document and share your observations of the natural world, helping scientists and conservationists understand and protect biodiversity.

iNaturalist will also help you learn more about your surroundings. Have you ever been on a hike and wondered what flower you’re seeing? Been along the shoreline and wondered what plants are growing? Heard a bird sing, but not sure what species it is? With a quick photo or sound recording, iNaturalist will tell you what you’re seeing or hearing.

Join the Glen Lake/Crystal River Project

The Glen Lake Association invites you to join our iNaturalist project to explore and document the incredible biodiversity in and around the watershed. Developed as a capstone project in the Michigan State University Conservation Stewards Program, this initiative was born from a shared love for plants and the great outdoors.
