To the Members and Friends of the Glen Lake Association:
Since I was a child, Glen Lake has always been the most special place to me. Our family discovered this magical lake in the 1950’s, and I still look forward to returning to it each year. Because of this, I want to do my part—and more—to make our community stronger and preserve the lakes and river for my family and future generations.
I’m sure many of you share my passion for the Glen Lake area.
This year was certainly another beautiful year in the Glen Lake/Crystal River Watershed. However, it was also one that came with challenges. The recent discovery by our vigilant boat wash staff of additional Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM) fragments floating in Little Glen Lake led to a diligent search for their source, ultimately resulting in the location of four established EWM colonies. This spurred the Glen Lake Association (GLA) to address and develop an action plan for the new year.
In addition, staff changes caused the GLA board to assess our needs going forward and prompted us to create a new Executive Director position, for which we are actively recruiting. The board will look to the Executive Director to lead the GLA’s operations, establish organizational policies and procedures as needed, identify future staffing needs, enhance the organization’s visibility and reputation within the community, and increase revenue through membership, fundraising, and grants.
It is our hope that this position will enable us to manage our organization better and provide more effective stewardship for our precious resources, reflecting our commitment to building a stronger organizational and financial foundation for future growth and success.
Looking to the year ahead, I know how important it is to address the growing demands on our watershed. I invite you to join me in making a year-end contribution to the GLA.
