Once again this spring, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) stocked Glen Lake with rainbow trout and lake trout. They poured 20,699 rainbow trout and 14,900 lake trout into the lake at the DNR boat launch on Little Glen.
The Michigan DNR manages Glen Lake as a recreational fishery, and they annually stock lake trout and rainbow trout to enhance recreational fishing opportunities and maintain a balanced ecosystem. Stocking addresses the fact that lake trout and rainbow trout do not reproduce in Glen Lake in self-sustaining numbers. The DNR does not stock coolwater fish like northern pike, bluegill, perch, and largemouth bass, because they can sustain viable populations without stocking. Instead, the DNR uses fishing regulations to manage their populations.
To fish on Glen Lake, you must buy a fishing license. Also, remember to always check for updated fishing regulations.
