What topics are covered during the Discovery Boat Tour?

There’s so much to learn about the incredible natural resources within the Glen Lake-Crystal River Watershed, including:

  •  How the lakes, wetlands, streams and surrounding hillsides were formed by glaciers
  •  The chemistry of the water 
  •  The biology of the plants and animals
  •  The ecology of how all the parts work together 
  •  Community partners and political forces at work within the watershed
  •  The life cycle of swimmer’s itch and how to prevent it

The curriculum varies each week and can be tailored to the interests of the participants

FAQs

Q: When and from where do tours depart?

A: Tours depart promptly at 10:00 am and 12:45 pm Fridays in July. You will  board  the Discovery Boat from the Glen Craft Marina dock at 6391 South Lake Street, just southeast of downtown Glen Arbor.

Q: How long do the tours last? 

A: The tour lasts aprox. 2 hours

Q: Can anyone participate?

A: Adults and children age 8 and older are welcome. Children under the age of 10 must bring a properly fitted life jacket to be worn on board at all time. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Q: Are ADA accommodations provided?

A:  The dock and the boat are wheelchair accessible.

Q: What does a tour cost?

A: The per person cost is $15 for GLA members and $25 for non-members. Space is limited and spaces fill up quickly. 

Q:  What should I wear and bring on board?

A:  We recommend that you bring water, a snack, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a rain jacket. We also recommend dressing in layers, as temperatures on the water can be much different than on land.
